RF Power Supplies

A radio frequency power supply is a type of electronic amplifier that converts a low-power radio frequency signal into a higher power signal. They are typically used to convert power outputs, bandwidth, power efficiency, linearity input and output impedance matching, and heat dissipation.

Types of RF power meters

There are many different kinds of power supplies, requiring different types of power meters.

  • In-lineRF power meters take a sample of the power flowing along a feed-line and use this to indicate a power level. These inline RF power meters are used on live systems, such as radio transmitters to check on the outgoing power.
  • AbsorptiveRF power meters absorb the amount of power measured. Simple meters can be analogue types that are made from a single unit consisting of an RF load, the sensing diodes and an analogue meter.

When are RF power supplies used for?

RF power supplies are typically seen in laboratories, schools and educational institutions due to a variety of factors including: their clear and simple LED display that accurately conveys voltage and current, a strong display resolution and
